The gaming and esports industry has ballooned in recent years with literally billions of people gaming daily. For a large portion of those people, gaming is more of a lifestyle than it is a hobby. And as with any lifestyle, health and wellness play big roles. Historically, the gaming industry hasn’t seemed as concerned with health and wellness—or at least, it hasn’t been publicly advertised to do so. But all that’s changing.

Health and wellness in gaming

Considering what it means to have a gaming lifestyle—or even to game consistently as a hobby—it’s very important for gamers to take care of themselves and to know what it is they should watch for and focus on that’s specific to gaming. Things like long hours in front of a screen emitting lots of artificial blue light, hours seated and potentially with poor posture or non-ergonomically positioned devices and furniture, and lots and lots of repetitive motion for your hands, wrists, arms, and shoulders. Oh, and don’t forget the tension that inevitably comes with high-stress games. That list alone has enough factors that affect our physical and mental health and well-being, and those are just the basics.

How Ritual Motion supports gamer health

Ritual Motion was in fact borne out of a desire to help ease gamers’ hand and wrist pain. One of our founders, Dana, saw his kids playing video games all the time and noticed that they consistently had soreness. So, he set out to create compression gloves, which ultimately became our Gaming Skins. But it quickly became about much more than just hand and wrist support. Ritual Motion is now a broad community with efforts and initiatives supporting all aspects of gamers’ physical and mental health, including more gear like blue light gaming glasses, dietary products like spirulina-based SNACK clusters, and Ritual Motion multi-vitamins specifically engineered to support gamers’ needs. Add to all that nonprofit fundraising tournaments to support community causes, surveys and reports on gamer health, a whole lineup of content covering the full range of gamer health issues, and more.
