Every election year in the U.S. is incredibly important, but with the weight of COVID-19 bearing down on everyone and the recent social unrest, the election in this year feels to have taken on even greater significance.

In recent times, there has been a certain amount of apathy amongst student voters to take to the ballot boxes and have your say. At Ritual Motion, we believe that exercising your vote is one of the most important things you can do as a citizen. That’s why we have teamed up with Rock the Vote and Gamers.Vote to organize a one of a kind gaming tournament where we can bring varsity gamers together to raise awareness of the importance of voting and the organizations working hard to encourage it.

Both Rock the Vote and Gamers.Vote work with the soul intention of promoting voting amongst America’s youth population and we want to lend our support to them by bringing you all together so you can hear about all the great work they do.

Rock the Vote.
Founded in 1990, Rock the Vote is a non-partisan, non-profit organization that has revolutionized the use of pop culture, music, art, and technology to fulfill its mission of building the long-term political power of youth.

Rock the Vote is empowering a diverse generation and creating a culture of civic engagement by employing strategies that research has found to be successful in getting youth to vote: opportunities to register to vote, particularly online voter registration; personalized and interactive contact; and basic information about when, where, and how to vote.

Rock the Vote leverages its expertise, resources, and relationships to empower local, state, and national groups and youth-led movements to build political power through voting. To date, Rock the Vote has provided civic technology to over 22,000 organizations and has added more than 12 million new voters to the rolls. You can find out more about Rock the Vote at https://www.rockthevote.org.

When we caught up with Carolyn DeWitt (President & Executive Director of Rock the Vote), she told us: “With 4 million young people turning 18 this year, and Millennials and Gen Z comprising nearly 40% of the electorate in 2020, Rock the Vote knows the power young voters have to determine the direction of our country and our communities. Since our founding 30 years ago, we’ve leveraged culture and technology to reach young people where they are with messages that resonate and information that empowers them to understand and use their vote. We’re excited to team up with Ritual Motion and their Varsity Votes initiative to engage the gamer community in registering and encouraging new voters to take action in November and in all elections after.”

“We are excited and pleased to have Ritual Motion as a partner. The Varsity Votes tournament will make voting a priority for their community. A young voter’s milestone experience ushered in with a Smash tournament is a fun way to celebrate making your voice heard and count at the ballot box.” Christie St Martin, CEO, Gamers.Vote.

We are inviting you to join us to compete in a Super Smash Bros. tournament like never before. Entry into the tournament will be free for open play and by invite only for the Varsity competition. There is a $750 prize pot up for grabs, as well as $7,000 worth of  goodies from HyperX, Game Truck, Fifth and Ninth and SNACK plus the opportunity for one lucky Varsity Team to have an online store set up by Ritual Motion to sell branded Warrior Gaming Skins, Blade Series Gaming Glasses, Ritual Motion Supplements and more…

The event will be held on September 19th and 20th, 2020 on Smash.GG and streamed live via the Twitch channels of Ritual Motion, Rock the Vote and Gamers.Vote to an audience of thousands.

As with our recent Playing for Pride event, we will also be producing special Varsity Vote skins. These skins are a great way to show your support for the cause, while protecting your hands while gaming. For every pair of Varsity Votes skins “15% of the proceeds of your purchase will support youth civic education and get out the vote campaigns”.
