Dear Esports and Gaming Enthusiasts,
I’m so excited to meet all of you! My name is Crystal Mills, and I’m honored to be Ritual Motion’s new VP of Content. I’ve been a writer and editor in esports for over 10 years, where I have worked with organizations such as OpTic Gaming and provided freelance work for companies like Esports Insider, The Loadout, Benzinga, and theScore. However, my work began as an aimless hobby. During the Modern Warfare 2 days, I was uploading cringy gameplay videos on YouTube when I realized that I should also be writing.
I created a tiny blog called Hey CKM, but I didn’t know what my direction was. Everything became clearer when I began writing Call of Duty recaps for eSportsNation. My love for the esports industry exploded, and I knew this was where I belonged. I became the Managing Editor of eSportsNation and worked with the editorial team before I moved to become the Editor in Chief at OpTic Intel.
My experience in the industry was filled with constant highs and lows. The lows pushed me into another career altogether, and I ended up going to school to become a surgical technologist, something entirely different! While going to school and then working full time in the operating room, I was working as a freelance writer on the side. I soaked up as much information I could and began to expand my knowledge outside of repetitive Call of Duty recaps.
I began to dive into the business side of the industry with Esports Insider, and then the financial side with Benzinga. I helped provide educational, long-form content with Supernyx, and became an advocate for women trying to break into the industry. Soon after, I became a Women in Games Ambassador and began to create other forms of content. I created a gaming podcast called Power Level and began streaming a variety of titles on Twitch.
My mission and values align perfectly with Ritual Motion and I can’t wait to grow our brand into a primary source of content for everyone in gaming and esports!
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Ritual Motion is excited to participate in multiple charity events. As a proud partner of the National Breast Cancer Foundation Inc., we’re providing Game Pink skins, where a portion of each sale will help support patients and families affected by breast cancer. In addition, we’re excited to be hosting Smash Out Breast Cancer, a Super Smash Bros. event, at the end of the month. More information about that will be out soon!
Outside of our events, we’re honoring various women in games and addressing the issues that create barriers for women trying to grow in esports. We have a ton of things planned as we ramp up our content, and I’m thrilled to share it all with you!
Make sure you’re following Ritual Motion on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook to stay up-to-date on all of our latest news and features. You can find me on Twitter as well (@CKMwrites) where I’m usually rambling about esports, talking about food, or posting pictures of my cat overlords.
