As we arrive at Week 3 of Yoga for Gamers, we ask the all-important question…why is Yoga so great?

Let’s begin by making sure you know what Yoga actually is. Yoga is an ancient form of exercise that focuses on strength, flexibility, and breathing to improve physical and mental wellbeing. Every yoga pose has a different name and includes standing postures, arm balances, inversions, seated twists and core holds, with the type of pose dictating the benefit to the body. The practice originated in India about 5,000 years ago, but the tradition continues to grow with over 300 million people now practicing it worldwide.

Why Yoga is good for gaming:

  • While gaming is known to increase overall happiness, it can cause stress while you are playing. Yoga helps to lower stress levels and improved mood thanks to increased oxygen intake.
  • Gaming can cause issues with wrists, elbows, and shoulders, while Yoga is known to reduce the risk of injury and re-injury via increased flexibility of soft tissue, ligaments, and tendons
  • Gaming for long periods of time can lead to a sedentary lifestyle that can lead to common health issues such as weight gain and high blood pressure. Yoga is famous for helping to lower blood pressure and reduce cholesterol.
  • Yoga improves posture thanks to improved core strength. This can help gamers who commonly experience issues with their necks and backs
