Halloween 2021 is just a few days away — where did October go?! The month has flown by, but don’t worry; there’s still time to celebrate the spooky season in every way possible. Put on a costume. Listen to Halloween jams. Binge Freeform’s 31 Nights of Halloween. And hey, you can even hop into your favorite video games to check out special Halloween events.

Every year, more and more video games launch massive parties to celebrate what is, in my humble opinion, the best holiday of the year. Here are the top 5 Halloween events for 2021 and beyond.

Fortnite – Fortnitemares

Fortnite‘s Halloween event, Fortnitemares, has more to offer every year. From early October to early November, players can collect special Halloween items and outfits based on classic spooky characters, like Frankenstein and the Mummy. The event also features special quests and Halloween twists on Chapter 2 Season 8’s story. Printable cutouts have returned this year, so players can bring the Fortnite fun to real life.

Fortnitemares 2021 even features a brand new short film festival, called Shortnitemares, to close out the Halloween event. The festival will include several spooky films in a special Fortnite movie theater. Epic didn’t release any dates yet, but Shortnitemares will likely take place on Halloween weekend.

Grand Theft Auto Online – Halloween Surprise Event

Grand Theft Auto Online has hosted an annual Halloween event for years. However, it’s usually a surprise, so Rockstar Games releases the details closer to the event date. GTA Online’s Halloween Surprise is expected to begin on Oct. 28 this year, since it’s the Thursday (update day) closest to Halloween. The length of the event is also unclear, but last year’s surprise lasted two whole weeks and ran well past Halloween.

So far, GTA Online has teased a UFO-themed event for 2021, as seen in the tweet above. Players can spot a UFO in a new location every day leading up to the surprise, and if they get too close, they’ll experience engine failure in their vehicles and a strange lightning strike.

Call of Duty Warzone/Black Ops Cold War – The Haunting

Call of Duty‘s annual Halloween event, The Haunting, kicked off on Oct. 19. Classic horror movie lovers will definitely want to participate this year because the theme is Scream. The Haunting brings plenty of Halloween content, including new weapons and spooky items in Multiplayer, Zombies, and Warzone. Players can access a Halloween-themed map and plenty of new modes to get in the spooky spirit. Make sure to complete The Haunting’s challenges to receive special rewards!

Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Jack’s Halloween Event

The number of people who are surprised to see Animal Crossing on any list made by Elise Nelson: zero. My love for this game aside, I truly believe this event is one of the best ways to spend a cozy Halloween night in. All October long, Animal Crossing: New Horizons players can collect candy, grow different colored pumpkins, and craft Halloween decorations to get their islands ready for Oct. 31.

On Halloween night at 5 p.m., Jack the Pumpkin Czar visits islands to give players special items in exchange for candy. Additionally, villagers will walk around seeking candy; give them a piece, or get tricked.

Pokémon GO – Halloween Mischief

During Pokémon GO’s Halloween Mischief 2021, players can catch costumed Pokémon and complete Special Research stories with Ghost-type Pokémon, plus battle it out in the Halloween cup. To top it all off, there are extra Candy rewards and spooky music in Lavender Town. The event, which is split into two parts, runs until Oct. 31 at 8 p.m. local time. Happy Halloween!
